Aither was a Sendai-based idol group formed by the Deja Vu agency that debuted in June 2013. The three original members were previously members of other idol groups, Konno Yuuka and Tsujimura Airi from Piichi & Choko, B Flat and Party Rockets and Misaki from pramo. Aither released three indie CDs before breaking up. Aither's image and songs were atypical of most idol groups. Aither wore black and white outfits, eschewing the usual colorful miniskirts many groups wear. Their songs were also more reminiscent of artist songs rather than typical idol songs.
On April 26, 2014 Megumi, formerly of the Step One duo Rena-Megu, and Sakura joined Aither, and the group was referred to as Aither-Five, although their third CD still credits them as simply Aither. During June 2014 Aither (minus Megumi) performed at Idol Matsuri, the first U.S. idol convention, in Silverdale, Washington. This was the fastest debut to overseas performance in Japanese idol group history, with no major label or anime tie-in supporting them. On July 2, 2014 it was announced that Megumi was leaving after her performance this day, and Sakura would be leaving on July 5. Yuuka announced on October 9, 2014 on Aither's blog that she was leaving the group due to problems with Aither's management. Aither continued as a duo until their announcement on November 27, 2014 that the group would be disbanding on December 29.
On February 14, 2015 a new Aither debuted. Originally they intended to add a new member each month until they had five members again. However, Yui has apparently left the group and Himena is the only one posting comments on Twitter and Aither's blog.
